Bring On the Apprentices

Since its inception, Freed Bodyworks has been a business that takes a client-centered approach to therapeutic massage and holistic wellness. We strive to attract the best therapists in the DMV to ensure that our clients get the work they need. We’re also a mission-based business, emphasizing inclusion, social justice, and ongoing education in our work and our space.
In service of our high bodywork standards and our ethos of education, we’re instituting a new program the month--bodywork apprenticeships. Our apprentices are primarily recent massage school graduates in their first year of full-time work in the field. They are, of course, fully licensed therapists, and they are invested in their careers as bodyworkers. Throughout their year-long apprenticeship, they will undergo ongoing classroom education as well as one-on-one mentorship with an established member of our professional bodywork team.
Not only is it our hope that our apprentices will continue to learn and grow as skilled bodyworkers, but also that our mentors get the opportunity to learn and grow as teachers. Additionally, as a team, we constantly work to educate one another about the different backgrounds we hold and communities we belong to so that we can elevate our entire group’s capacity to serve those communities. By adding to our team, we add to our diversity, and that only makes us stronger and more equipped to care for you and your loved ones.
In the spirit of social justice, we’re also committed to making bodywork as accessible as possible while continuing to pay our practitioners as a fair rate. In exchange for the benefit of a dedicated mentor within our team, apprentices charge a little less per session than our professional- and senior-tier bodyworkers do. On top of that, our entire team, apprentices included, is encouraged to serve clients on a sliding-scale basis.
We’re excited to expand and take this step forward as a hub for inclusive bodywork education, and we’re thrilled to have you along for the ride. Make sure you book with our incoming apprentices (intros to come), and encourage your friends to do the same!
Are you or is someone you know interested in apprenticing at Freed? Our application period for the fall has closed, but we will reopen the application on a rolling basis in the new year. Keep an eye on our newsletter for that announcement in early January.
