COVID-19 Policies

We consider the safety of our clients and our therapists to be the most important thing as we reopen during these uncertain times. We certainly miss you and want to see you, but we understand that the decision to get a massage is a deeply personal one. We are committed to being completely transparent about our process so that you have the information you need to keep yourself, your family, and our community safe.

Below you will find a comprehensive list of the changes we are making and policies we have in place. Please feel free to reach out to us at for clarification on any of our procedures.

Disinfecting the Treatment Rooms

  • Freed is closing from 2pm-3pm each day for a thorough disinfection of all rooms that have been in use, circulation of outdoor air throughout the whole building and running an hour of “turbo” HEPA air filtration which will filter the full volume of air in the room at least 5 times.

  • Between each client, practitioners will disinfect:

    • face rests, pillows and tables (as used/ applicable),

    • door knobs, light switches

    • chair-side table tops

  • Between each client, practitioners will run HEPA filters on “turbo” for 15 min which will filter the full volume of air in the room at least once

  • Freed staff will keep documentation of cleaning for accountability

Safer Treatment Rooms

  • HEPA filter in each treatment room plus a regular fan

  • Humidifiers for months when the heater is running.

  • Hand sanitizer pump dispensers in each treatment room

  • Waterproof layers on all tables, face cradles and pillows to enable wiping of surface with sanitizing spray

  • All trash cans changed to pedal operated

  • Dirty laundry will be placed in plastic tubs with secure lids in the treatment room (rather than hamper)

  • Any clean linens/pillows stored inside the treatment room must be behind a closed cabinet door

  • Blankets will be changed after each client

  • All laundry is washed off-site by a professional laundering company and is not mixed with other laundry, washed and dried on hot setting, and laundry bags are washed

Safer Shared Spaces

  • Touch points sanitized throughout the day (door knobs, faucets, pens, handrails, etc)

  • Client forms digitized and emailed (printed for therapist use)

  • Contactless check-in

  • iPad is sanitized before and after client checkout. Clients can opt for remote check out and we will simply charge the card you have on file. (*for transparency, "card not present" transactions incur a nearly double fee from our credit card processing company so when possible we prefer to have you swipe your card on site.)

  • Masks required at all times by clients and staff (this will continue despite CDC guidance regarding vaccinated people being able to be in public without masks, as we are a healthcare facility who serves immunocompromised clients who are not able to receive the vaccine)

  • Clients must wash their hands or use hand sanitizer upon entry

  • The entry/lobby & bathroom surfaces will be wiped down by staff & practitioners throughout the day

  • Freed is closing from 2pm-3pm each day for a thorough disinfection of all rooms, circulation of outdoor air throughout the building and running an hour of “turbo” HEPA air filtration

  • Water coolers will be off-limits to clients but can be used by therapists on behalf of clients

Client Screening Policy

  • Thorough screening waiver before each appointment for COVID related risk factors.

  • All clients have their temperature taken by their therapist using a touchless thermometer

  • No unvaccinated client will be seen if they have traveled, as outlined in DC regulations, until they receive a negative test (more than 72 hours after returning) or have quarantined for 10 days.

  • No penalty for late cancellation due to new symptoms, exposure or health concerns (please let us know as soon as you can)

Therapists Safety Measures:

  • All therapists and staff are fully vaccinated

  • Wear a mask at all times in the building unless eating or drinking

  • Wash their hands or use hand sanitizer upon:

    • entry to the building,

    • after each session,

    • after disinfecting the treatment room,

    • after eating/drinking,

    • after contact with any contaminated surface

    • after touching face, coughing/sneezing

  • Closely monitor their symptoms and exposures

    • If there are any fever or questionable symptoms, the therapist will cancel and reschedule their appointments

Procedure for Client Notification in Case of Exposure

  • If Freed is notified that a client has tested positive for COVID-19, the Business Manager will oversee the following process

    • The therapist that worked on the client and anyone who came into close contact with the client, will be notified and will leave/stop coming to Freed immediately until they receive a negative COVID test

    • Clients seen by the directly-exposed therapist after the infected client but before Freed received notification will be notified

    • Clients seen in the same room as the infected person on the same day will be notified

    • Clients seen by other therapists during the same shift as the the infected person will be notified

    • Freed Bodyworks will submit information to DC DOH via this form

    • A disinfection of the building will be done ASAP
